You Know What’s Right

We all know animal abuse is wrong. But it still happens. The AP reports:

“A video released by an animal rights group on Tuesday claims to show horrific abuse of turkeys at West Virginia farms operated by major global poultry grower Aviagen Inc.

“People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said the video, which includes workers stomping on turkeys’ heads and twisting their necks to kill them, was shot by an undercover investigator who worked on the companies’ farms for more than two months.

“The undercover worker, who was not identified, described stifling, dusty barns where the animals were kept and caught video of several workers killing turkeys, slamming them into metal cages and bragging about previous abuse of the animals.” [emphasis added]

You can stop this abuse. You can go or stay vegan.

To vegans: Thanksgiving season is an annual reminder that we live in a world that is not only cruel to turkeys, but also intolerant of vegans. The 300 MILLION turkeys slaughtered each year, most of them tortured, are a sober reminder that we have a long road ahead of us on our journey towards a peaceful, vegan world. Please try to remember that most non-vegans know not what they do. Most are ignorant. And most will react defensively the first few times their choices are criticized. Please don’t take their negative reactions personally. And please don’t give up on them. It may take days, weeks, months, or years, but many omnivores come around eventually and realize they were vegans at heart all along. Share your vegan food. Share your vegan ideas. Share your vegan heart. And even as sad and angry as the needless and cruel turkey slaughter is, please don’t let that sadness and anger take over your heart or your voice.

To omnivores: Please, please, please choose a vegan option this Thanksgiving. If only for this one meal, make a truly compassionate, ethical choice and spare a turkey’s life. You know you can. You know you should.
