Well Spoken Animal Advocacy
Here are some of my favorite, recent quotes in the animal advocacy circle:
On Supremacy and Domination:
“Self-delusional and mentally masturbatory as it may be, we human animals invest insane amounts of energy into maintaining our perverse illusion that we are separate from the ‘natural world’ and possess an omnipotence that enables us to bend the forces of nature to our wills.” [...] “We mercilessly and thoughtlessly abuse, exploit, and slaughter commodified non-human animals simply to amplify our personal pleasure and fatten our wallets. Despite the slow and choppy moral progress we’ve made in how we treat our fellow human animals, we are still acculturated to view non-human animals as enslaved property or lesser beings, unworthy of the basic rights to life, freedom, and protection from torture.” wrote Jason Miller.
Regarding Fur:
“It’s absurd that in 2008, anyone is wearing fur, period. We’re not cave people, struggling to survive in sub-freezing temperatures. That any educated person would ever wear fur that’s been ripped off the bodies of dogs, cats, rabbits, foxes, and other animals, often while they’re still alive, is unfathomable.” wrote Patricia Trostle at PETA Files.
About Meat:
“I see it this way: those in opposition to us have so little in their favor in terms of evidence for maintaining their heart-clogging, global warming enhancing, death mongering lifestyle that they now need to vilify us to make themselves feel better. It is becoming ever-more alarming how similar war mongers are to meat mongers.” wrote Nikki at Vegan Verve.
The Vegan Principle:
“Given the fundamental moral axiom that it is wrong to cause injury, suffering, or death to another individual unless there is a compelling reason to do so, ethical vegetarians argue that — except in very rare cases such as self-defense or ’subsistence’ hunting — we never have adequate reason to harm animals. This is true not only for exploiting animals for ’sport,’ ‘entertainment,’ and fur, but also killing them for food.” wrote Dr. Steven Best
A well written or well spoken person is one of the most effective tools of the animal rights movement. Were we all so eloquent. We all have our moments of brilliance, but when we’re not so brilliant, it’s nice to be able to lean on others who are. When we find these rare gems of well spoken insight, let’s share them!
