Vegan MoFo: The Survey!

This Vegan MoFo inspired survey comes from Whoa Wren. I’ve answered here (in italics). If you want to answer, just copy and paste the questions and answer them here in the comments or at your own blog.

1. Favorite non-dairy milk?
For breakfast cereals I like nonfat Westsoy simply because that’s what I’m used to. That’s what was available when I was a kid so that’s stuck. For coffee, I like Trader Joe’s or Silk creamer. To drink alone, I like chocolate flavored soy or almond milk of any brand.

2. What are the top 3 dishes/recipes you are planning to cook?
There aren’t any. I’m probably just going to eat whatever my husband fixes for me. Lucky me!

3. Topping of choice for popcorn?
Melted vegan margarine or popcorn salt. I tried nutritional yeast on popcorn and I do not like it one bit.

4. Most disastrous recipe/meal failure?
Please. Like I would admit that here. Heh.
OK, so maybe I forgot the sugar in a cupcake recipe once. Whoops.

5. Favorite pickled item?
Gross! I hate anything pickled.

6. How do you organize your recipes?
I have shelves of cookbooks and I stuff printed out recipes between the books. I also have a notebook near the oven where I write down new creations.

7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal?
Garbage disposal for food waste. Trash and recycling containers for everything else.
When I was a kid we tried composting once and it was a disaster. I’ve been traumatized.

8. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 foods…what would they be (don’t worry about how you’ll cook them)?
Beans!!! I love beans. Apples because they’re so convenient. Potatoes because they’re satisfying.

9. Fondest food memory from your childhood?
I have so many! My mom is a fantastic cook. But I think the thing I enjoyed most was the summer spent baking cakes.
I swear, it had nothing at all to do with eating them ;)

10. Favorite vegan ice cream?
Purely Decadent coconut milk vegan ice cream.

11. Most loved kitchen appliance?
Rice cooker. Which is funny because when they first started getting popular I thought, “How ridiculous!? People need an appliance to cook something so simple?” But now I just love it. I love being able to just through stuff in and turn it on and wait.

12. Spice/herb you would die without?
Cilantro. People love it or hate. I love it.

13. Cookbook you have owned for the longest time?
Moosewood

14. Favorite flavor of jam/jelly?
Strawberry

15. Favorite vegan recipe to serve to an omni friend?
Chili because it’s so easy and tasty and it doesn’t freak people out the way a tofu steak does.
But usually I don’t worry about them. I just make something I want to eat and if they like it, they like it. If they don’t, I don’t cook that again next time.

16. Seitan, tofu, or tempeh?
Depends on the dish!

17. Favorite meal to cook (or time of day to cook)?
Anything easy. Lentils or beans are favorites in my house.

18. What is sitting on top of your refrigerator?
The dog toys that require supervision.

19. Name 3 items in your freezer without looking.
Frozen corn, frozen string beans, frozen berries.

20. What’s on your grocery list?
Seltzer water, fruit, canned beans, coffee creamer, cookie ingredients, frozen corn, cactus jerky, lettuce…

21. Favorite grocery store?
The one near-by. I’m not picky. I shop anywhere. If/when we get a vegan grocery in my area, I’ll shop there more often than not, but til then, all the others rank equally in my eyes.

22. Name a recipe you’d love to veganize, but haven’t yet.
I prefer to start with recipes that are already vegan and then add salsa ;)

23. Food blog you read the most (besides Isa’s because I know you check it everyday). Or maybe the top 3?

24. Favorite vegan candy/chocolate?
I expect to like Go Max Go candybars, but I haven’t tried them. Right now I like Crispy Cats.

25. Most extravagant food item purchased lately?
Vegan tuna melt from Red Velvet. That’s a regular extravagant purchase.

26. Ingredients you are scared to work with?
Anything unfamiliar or time-consuming.
