Vegan Fire & Spice Cookbook Nonreview
I received a review copy of Vegan Fire & Spice: 200 Sultry and Savory Global Recipes by Robin Robertson, who has a blog: http://veganplanet.blogspot.com/. I don’t even have to try a recipe to know I’ll like it. The description makes it sound fantastic:
“Organized by global regions, this book gives you 200 inventive and delicious 100% vegan recipes for traditional international dishes, using readily available ingredients. Best of all, you can adjust the heat yourself and enjoy these recipes hot - or not.”
But more than that, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed two of Robertson’s former cookbooks, Vegan Planet and Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker. Vegan Planet is an excellent introduction to veganism with plenty of recipes than can sustain a vegan for years! Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker is a fun crockpot cookbook that can help make the transition from vegetarianism to veganism because each recipe is either entirely vegan or has a vegan modification. I wasn’t planning to go vegan when I bought that cookbook, which is why the “vegetarian” title appealed to me at the time. I was pleased to realize it was one of the cookbooks I could keep and use when I made the switch over to veganism. Moreover, I was pleased to realize many of my favorite recipes from the book were vegan - I just hadn’t noticed before. I almost wonder if this cookbook played a subconscious role in my transition because it urged me to cook more vegan foods and to rely less on eggs and dairy. Regardless, it’s a good cookbook.
I would review Vegan Fire & Spice, but sadly I cannot. I am moving and my kitchen is completely bare. We’ve packed everything up and sent it off with the moving company. I have no cooking equipment at all right now and won’t have anything for the next two weeks. I don’t even have a blender or a coffee maker! (We’ll be eating raw and eating out for the next few weeks.)
So, I enlisted the help of my mother, who is also vegan and who loves to cook. She will review this book and post the review here at Vegan Soapbox shortly. Just stay tuned for her review.
