Three Bits Of Veg Bites
Here are a few recent articles about vegetarianism and veganism that might interest you…
Notorious carnivore Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is now nearly vegetarian. He explains why:
“we need to eat more vegetables and less flesh because vegetables are the foods that do us the most good and our planet the least harm. Do I need to spell out the arguments to support that assertion? Is there anyone who seriously doubts it to be true? Just ask yourself if you, or anyone you know, might be in danger of eating too many vegetables.”

James McWilliams examines the deranged mentality of factory farmers:
“we should never fail to overlook the psychological implications of something as emotionally charged as killing animals for food. And when it comes to this endeavor, scale and density of production accomplishes something essential for all factory farming: it severs the emotional bond between farmers and animals. In the bluntest terms, it allows my friend Bill to kill thousands of animals a year and remain a happy person.”
A study shows that saving animals’ lives by consuming fewer animal products results in saving human lives too. Moreover, it saves money:
“The modelling carried out by the BHF HPRG found that if people in the UK consumed the Less Meat diet [58% less meat and dairy product than current consumption rates] then (under the most conservative assumptions about food waste) 32,000 [human] deaths would be averted or delayed each year. 26,000 of these deaths would be from cardiovascular disease (CVD, i.e. coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke) and 6,000 would be from cancer. Furthermore costs to the NHS would be reduced by £0.85bn if the Less Meat diet were achieved.”
