The Vegan Revolution: A Small Slice Of History
We still have miles and miles to go, but we’ve come a long way.
Let’s take a look back at what we’ve accomplished in the last few decades.
Twenty to thirty years ago…
- General Motors used chimpanzees. Now they use crash test dummies.
- McDonald’s used lard. Then they lied and said they used 100% pure vegetable oil.
- Soy milk wasn’t available at regular American grocery stores.
- Most people thought vegetarianism and veganism were bad for your health. Now most people recognize vegetarianism and veganism as healthy diets.
- PETA didn’t exist. Now it’s the most widely recognized animal liberation group in the US.
- Vegan blogs like Taste Better, Vegan YumYum, and Fat Free Vegan didn’t exist. Blogs, in general, didn’t exist. Vegan and vegetarian recipes were found in cookbooks, family, and community.
