This is the most offensive thing I have heard in a long time. Hello, does no one understand that pigs are one of the most intelligent animals on this planet.I have helped raise them and know that they are amazing, sweet, loving, creatures. This is an outrage. I don't believe that we look to innocent animals to torture them in the meat plants, and now we let them go and shoot them to test our medical skills. Does everyone see something wrong with this, they should. How would humans like it if the pigs wanted to do the same to them.

To Meagan,

The Army not only sends it Doctors but its Special Operation Medics to hospitals to work as you describe. It was in several NY city hospitals that I witnessed civilian doctors who had no "live tissue" training maim and kill inner city patients because they were not prepared for the shock of seeing blood and disfiguring injuries. Imagine seeing a patient have both sides of his chest cracked because a civilian educated doctor got dyslexic with the xrays. One of my least favorite was to watch a 17 year old boy die because of a civilian trained affirmative action doctor refused to let us stop the bleeding from a lacerated liver because as he said, "We're in the ER, we can give him blood". A moment later as they are trying to draw unnecessary femoral artery blood to type and cross match the blood transfusion, the rookie intern could not palpate a pulse on the illpsoa muscle (because it's not there)so they cracked this kids chest to do open heart massage. Not one of the King County team reached for the stethscopes around their necks, palpate for a more proximal pulse or look at the cardiac monitor. Of course young hearts don't die that easy so after being told by an Army medic that he needed to move the patient's lung so he could find the heart, this genuis ordered the knife victim to be sent to the OR so he didn't die on the ER's books.

These are only a couple of examples of the medieval malpractice I and my students witnessed in 8 of the NY area hospitals that we worked in. Of course all of you Obama supporters can be consoled by knowing that the taxpayers still got slammed through medicaid and medicare despite the outcome for the patients and their families.

I know you mean well but basing decisions based on emotion rather than logic is dangerous for all of us.

This is so disgusting.

@Meghan: That is a very good idea. It gives them experience and it might improve health care.

My boyfriend and I were discussing this the other day...his suggestion was to send the Army doctors to busy Emergency Rooms where they could not only "practice" their skills but also help out the overcrowded hospitals while they do it! Using pigs just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm quite sickened too! Outraged! Seems there is no end to the exploitations to animals that can be conjured up for the sake of "progress". Nothing like fighting a war with "space-age-high-tech wonders" while crawling in the muck and mire of the most barbaric darkness known to primative man. It's totally disgusting.

This is outrageous. If people weren't such degenerates to begin with killing others, destroying the planet, polluting it and going to wars we wouldn't need to take the lives of innocent animals who seem to behave better. We always need to pick on the innocent life forms to fix the problems we create in the first place! Pick on the poor little pigs who have a right to live just as humans do. so much of the human race should be ashamed of their actions. Just read the papers and watch the news to see all the great things are "Superior" species does to others and to this planet. Now we want to go after the pigs. Leave the poor little pigs alone. Sometimes when I look at how people act I think I would rather be around a pig. They at least are loving, gentle and compassionate and are looking to harm no one.
