Swine Flu: It Can Kill You Even If You Don’t Eat Pig

The first apparent victim of swine flu is little Edgar Hernandez, of La Gloria, a Mexican village not far from a pig farm half-owned by Smithfield Foods of Virginia. Articles on the connection between the farm and the illness include much speculation along with outright accusations by the villagers. At this time officials are saying they don’t really know if there is any relationship.

But ya gotta wonder.  Village residents have complained about the smell of pig feces for years, yet the Mexican government and the farm operators say there have been no outbreaks of flu among the pigs themselves. The culprit may be flies who feed off the feces and later fly to the village to contaminate the people, but swine flu research hasn’t quite reached that far.

I’m not going to say absolutely the pig farm is at fault.  But the Mexican government has as almost as much interest in keeping that farm going as the operators themselves.  I will go out on a limb and say it’s highly unlikely swine flu would develop and affect people if it weren’t for factory farms.

Go vegan, people!!

Unfortunately, being vegan gets you no guarantee that the factory farms won’t get you anyway.
