I was at a potluck a few weeks ago and we were making kabobs. There were all kinds of eaters from vegan (me) to vegetarian to flexitarian to carnivore. As the children were making their kabobs, a mom looked on and coached the kids on how to get the meat onto the skewer without touching it and she kept reminding the children to wash their hands quickly after making their kabobs. Why? Because virtually all meat is tainted with some kind of bacteria these days.
More from the news story:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates salmonella and campylobacter from chicken and other foods infect 3.3 million Americans, hospitalize over 26,000, and kill more than 650 every year.

How fitting – the story of the child at the potluck! Even when I ate meat I always thought it weird that I was so cautious about handling “the meat”. Two cutting boards – lots of anti-microbial sprays and sanitizers… It was a worry and a job to be “careful”. It gets you to wondering – Is this really suppose to be “food” after all?
“NO”!
