Meat Industry Response To Veal Video

The meat industry’s response to the HSUS undercover veal video. Responses below, after the video:

American Veal Association: “The treatment of calves depicted in the videos taken at Bushways Packing Plant in Vermont are unacceptable and not consistent with the standards of the American Veal Association (AVA), the Veal Quality Assurance Program or federal law.” (source)

Chuck Jolley, CattleNetwork writer: “In matters of animal handling and food safety, the USDA and any other federal, state and local governmental entity involved must adopt an aggressive, zero-tolerance policy.” (source)

Can we trust these guys? If they believe their own spin, why aren’t they the ones doing the undercover investigations?

One Response to Meat Industry Response To Veal Video

  1. Half way through I had to leave this video. As a young man I (ashamedly) sold chemicals to meat packing plants and others for 12 years and trust me, this video is not a particular exception. Most people have no idea that ‘veal cutlet’ is derived from slaughtered very young calves. The organization you cited gave an expected prefunctionary response, but as Paul McCarthy said:”If slaughter houses had glass walls, we’d all be vegetarians.”
