Relating Veganism To Feminism

Here’s a round-up of links that relate veganism to feminism:
- The Feminist’s Dilemma – “Dairy cows, though not human, are perhaps the most horribly abused females on the planet. As we fight for human equality, should we not also concern ourselves with how humans exploit the very thing that makes an animal female, that makes an animal a mother?”
- Why Women Should Care About Animals – “Eating animals kills women, animal cruelty hurts women, females (of any species) are often primarily valued for their reproductive capacity, kindness to animals rehabilitates women.”
- AR 2009: Commonality Of Oppressions – “Both humans and animals are turned into expendable objects for consumption by others.”
- Feminism and animal rights… a first step – “Going vegan was also one of the most effective ways of learning how to balance my own needs/desires with the world around me — a quality that evolved into other areas of my life. It led me to discover the ideals of social justice, feminism”
- Animal Advocacy is a Feminist Issue – “In patriarchal society women and animals are raped, beaten, hated, enslaved…”
- Intersectionality 101: Sexism, Racism, Speciesism, and More – “While all animals (both human and non-) suffer under this system, the females of the species usually experience the most egregious and prolonged abuses”
- ‘Elephant Killing Feminist’ Or Just ‘Elephant Killer’? – “Feminism, in my opinion, should not be about finding women’s niche in a male-centered world full of hyper-masculine values like death, destruction, and domination. Feminism is about ridding the world of sexism and misogyny, a task better done without shedding blood.”
And finally, a little rant I wrote almost a year ago on the topic of choice:
This is the VEGAN soapbox, not the feminist soapbox. And while I personally see all rights movements as linked and therefore I oppose sexism as much as I oppose speciesism, the fact is, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter if you think I’m hypocritical for supporting both Planned Parenthood and PETA. What matters is you and your choices. If you think it’s wrong to kill needlessly then you MUST go vegan.

Thank you for the links.

Nice round up! I get so discouraged sometimes by women who just don’t get the oppression & exploitation of nonhumans. Race, creed, sexism, ageism & speciesism – It’s all connected!
