No More Homeless Pets Conference: Three Best Friends

nmhp

I attended the Best Friends’ No More Homeless Pets Conference for the first time this year.

On Friday noon, the keynote address was delivered by three of the co-founders of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (and Society). This year Best Friends celebrates its 25-year anniversary. So Gregory Castle, Francis Battista, and Faith Maloney gave us a joint presentation about the history of the group.

It really is a remarkable story. A group of friends, all of whom loved animals, wanted to do more to save abandoned pets. They went to extraordinary lengths in giving of themselves and of their incomes to pull together what is now the largest animal sanctuary in the U.S. and undoubtedly the most beautiful as well. The three alternated telling parts of the story, and interspersed their remarks with short silent videos from Best Friends archives.

I had already read the story of the sanctuary, thanks to a book written by a reporter who fell in love with Best Friends. But of course I had not seen that footage or heard these friends talk. It was clear that they are still best friends, and friends of animals.

Look for more about the conference at the conference website, including videos and slideshows from some of the presentations, blog entries, links, and more.

One Response to No More Homeless Pets Conference: Three Best Friends

  1. Thanks to group of friends and to those animal lovers, good thing that there’s still people like them who never say no just to save the animals. I can’t wait to see the largest animal sanctuary.
