I’m part of a small group of Vegas Veg members who will run (or walk) 1 mile, 5k, or 10k to honor ALL mothers on Mother’s Day. We’re doing our run in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada and we’re honoring mothers by fundraising for Farm Sanctuary. We will run for the mother sows in gestation crates, the mother dairy cows who’ve had their calves stolen, the mother hens cramped in battery cages pumping out eggs, and all other animal mothers who deserve our compassion. Please join or support us!

We chose Farm Sanctuary as our charity to fundraise for for a couple reasons. One reason: Farm Sanctuary recently adopted Animal Acres, one of the shelters for farmed animals nearest us Las Vegans.  Another reason is that Farm Sanctuary has done incredible work in educating the public about the abuse that farmed animal endure. It’s an outstanding organization and we are honored to be able to take part in an event that recognizes them. (Learn about Farm Sanctuary at farmsanctuary.org )

The running/walking course is flat and should be easy for newbie runners. The flatness is also great for strollers, which I like because I will be pushing one on my run. Dogs are welcome (keep ‘em leashed) and I expect there to be plenty of dogs out enjoying the morning jog. There’s a dog park near the run location so I’m certain some dogs will go there after the run to mingle with their species.

The Vegas Veg team will meet before the run to chat and stretch. We will meet again after the run for a vegan potluck. If you’re in town, feel free to join the potluck even if you don’t plan to run/walk.
