Less Meat = Less Cancer

Less Meat = Less Cancer

The World Cancer Research Fund, “leads and unifies a global network of cancer charities dedicated to the prevention and control of cancer by means of healthy food and nutrition, physical activity and body weight.” This is a group that does not have any “vegan agenda.” They recently announced new dietary recommendations.

In order to prevent bowel cancer, the World Cancer Research Fund now advises people to do the following things:

  • limit consumption of beef, pork and lamb
  • avoid processed meat
  • eat more fiber
  • drink less alcohol
  • maintain a healthy weight
  • be active
  • “The panel confirmed that there is convincing evidence that both red and processed meat increase bowel cancer risk.” So convincing apparently that they recommend that people avoid eating processed meat entirely! They even say “Eat mostly foods of plant origin.”

I know this isn’t really news to most people, but it’s a good reminder of the link between meat and cancer.
