If It Looks Like A Duck And Walks Like A Duck

If It Looks Like A Duck And Walks Like A Duck

It just might be a duck.

Let’s compare some common statements made by human omnivores (who are by definition speciesists) with other kinds of power-mongering folks, like sexists, racists, and so forth.

See if you can spot the over-arching principle.

Omnivore: “I love animals. I love to eat them.”
Sexist: “I don’t hate women. I love them. I love to screw them.”

Omni: “They all look the same to me.”
Racist: “They all look the same to me.”

Omni: “I’m a vegan. Except when I eat chicken”
Heterosexist/ Homophobic: “I’m a lesbian trapped in a man’s body.”

Omni: “I’m smarter/ stronger/ better.”
Seixst/ Racist: “I’m smarter/ stronger/ better.”

Omni: “Humans are supposed to eat meat. It says so in the bible.”
Seixst: “Men are supposed to dominate women. It says so in the bible.”

Omni: “It’s tradition.”
Seixst: “It’s tradition.”

What’s the principle belief that allows all these statements? Might makes right. That’s what THEY say. We vegans, we say something different: “Please pass the tofu.”

  3. Those are not ducks, they are baby Swans.

  4. You mean the photo? Yes, they are baby swans. Very cute, too.

The point remains: omnivorism is similar to sexism, racism, classism, etc. in that the reasons given for perpetuating an unfair system are fallacious. They are just empty excuses. Nonvegans eat, wear, experiement on, and otherwise exploit animals because they believe animals don’t matter. It’s just that simple.
