Http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ And The CCF
The group that created and runs the website http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ is the Center for Consumer Freedom. There’s something you should know about the Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF):
- In 1995, Philip Morris created the Guest Choice Network. It’s a front group that was proposed by Rick Berman in a letter to a Philip Morris executive. Here’s the letter.
- In January, 2002, the Guest Choice Network renamed itself the Center for Consumer Freedom. Rick Berman is still in charge.
- Philip Morris has been exposed for its involvement in illegal cigarette smuggling, including smuggling into Iraq in violation of United Nations sanctions. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says cigarette smuggling funnels millions of dollars to groups like Al Qaeda [See Washington Post, ""Cigarette Smuggling Linked to Terrorism" and the UK Telegraph, "US tobacco companies face claims of smuggling to Iraq," and the six-month investigation by PBS and NOW with Bill Moyers.]

The CCF regularly smears animal rights organizations and campaigns. From sourcewatch:
The Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) (formerly called the “Guest Choice Network”) is a front group for the restaurant, alcohol and tobacco industries. It runs media campaigns which oppose the efforts of scientists, doctors, health advocates, environmentalists and groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, calling them “the Nanny Culture — the growing fraternity of food cops, health care enforcers, anti-meat activists, and meddling bureaucrats who ‘know what’s best for you.’ ”
Over 40 percent of the group’s 2005 expenditure was paid to Rick Berman‘s PR company, Berman & Co. for “management services. [1] As part of its operations CCF runs a series of attack websites, including “consumerfreedom.com, activistcash.com, cspiscam.com, animal-scam.com, fishscam.com, obesitymyths.com, physiciansscam.com [and] petalkillsanimals.com”.[2] [...]
Like other Berman & Co. front groups, CCF is headquartered at the following address:Berman & Co.
1775 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 1200
Washington, DC 20006
Phone: (202) 463-7110
FAX: (202) 463-7107

While it’s true that PETA probably shouldn’t do hands-on animal rescue or shelter work, the CCF, through its involvement in cigarette smuggling, as well as its promotion of unhealthy lifestyles like cigarette smoking and eating fast food, ultimately kills people.

It’s probably good to point out that while PETA does kill (or euthanize) some animals out of mercy and compassion (to save them from a worse fate) the CCF is funded by companies that purposely kill millions of animals each year in the name of greed and profit.
They don’t care about human rights, consumer rights, animal rights, or even animal welfare. They only care about making money from companies that are willing to pay them to ruin the reputations of activist groups that work to protect animals and people from greedy corporations. In the words of Rick Berman, “Our work is restricted to and focused on issues that affect shareholder value… Our offensive strategy is to shoot the messenger… we’ve got to attack their credibility as spokepersons.”
The petakillsanimals site is the perfect weapon for the CCF because it plays into the disagreement among animal rights activists regarding euthanasia vs no kill shelters. The CCF will continue to exploit that division, and other divisive issues, and use them to drive a wedge between the most effective animal protection groups (PETA, HSUS, Farm Sanctuary) and their member supporters who don’t know the whole story.
“while PETA does kill (or euthanize) some animals out of mercy and compassion the CCF is funded by companies that purposely kill millions of animals each year in the name of greed and profit.”
Good point.
This is a rhetorical question, since I just happened upon your site. But is the CCF a real organization with multiple members? Or is Rick Berman the whole thing, representing corporate interests who hire him to trash the opposition?
~ Recent blog post: Animal Rights activists ~
It is so confusing that Choose Cruelty Free http://www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au/
and
Centre for Consumer Freedom http://www.consumerfreedom.com/
(which by throwing a vague glanc at their frontpage seems like right out *ssholes)
both have the abbreviation CFF.
Have the Centre for Consumer Freedom chosen it on purpose you think?
They seem to want to destroy anything good, ethical or healthy.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a website lie so much.
Tragic really if anyone believes them. They’ll learn the hard way when they get ill from all the crap because they were lied to.
