HSUS, despite claiming to not support animal rights, holds great power over the animal rights movement through their money influence and networking connections. Countering their ideological hegemony is critical to getting our house in order and advancing the goal of liberation for other animals.

Who cares? I don’t control the HSUS and neither do you.
If you think there’s a better way to advocate for animals, THEN DO IT.
Stop trying to change other advocates and start trying to change the world.

Regarding your “Some people went vegan because of Prop 2″ comment. That very well may be the case, but how many other people now think that their eggs come from some beautiful farm where the chickens are happily roaming free? Most assume they did their part, they voted for Prop 2. If the above comments are the HSUS stance on cage free, why don’t they use part of that $131 MILLION in donations to work towards the elimination of the egg industry in it’s entirety? That would be far too controversial and I’m betting Wolfgang Puck wouldn’t sponsor their charity dinners then.

Some people went vegan because of Prop 2. Never before did they know about factory farming and all the cruelty in animal agriculture, but during the campaign, they learned.

Say what you will about the HSUS, but you can’t accurately claim that Prop 2 didn’t accomplish something. It did.

Meh! That’s one of the reasons (besides Wayne Pacelle making $200,000+ a year) that I can’t stand HSUS. They paraded Prop 2 out as this great accomplishment to get donation funds when they fully know that it was completely void of actually helping the animals.
