Green Party Recognizes Animal Rights
Not all animal righters are political animals. And those who are political run the gamut. Some are Democrat, some Republican, some are anarchists and some are Independents. And some are Green…
Vegan Ideal reports:
the US Greens made an important change in the draft of the Green Party of the United States platform by moving the section concerning nonhuman animals from the ecology chapter of the platform to the social justice chapter
And from the Green Party:
We reject the belief that our species is the center of the world, and that other life forms exist only for our use and enjoyment. Our species does not have the right to exploit and inflict violence on other animals simply because we have the desire and power to do so. Our ethic upholds not only the value of biological diversity and the integrity and continuity of species, but also the value of individual lives and the interest of individual animals.
Wow, just awesome. Makes me feel super-duper proud to be registered as a Green. ![]()
(The other reason I registered as Green previously? Because they list feminism and gender equality as one of their ten key values.)

Another step. Given the developments in Spain regarding primate person-hood, I wonder if we are seeing the beginning of a pattern of enlightenment in some political circles.
But yeah, I agree with your sentiments: “just awesome” indeed.
I believe in everything the Green Party believes in and am looking forward to someday voting for my first Green candidate. I’m sorry to say, though, that at this point I’m going to continue to vote Democrat because that’s where I think my vote will do the most good.

Tracy - I often vote for the Dems, too. And in fact, I registered Democrat so I could vote in the primary and then I re-registered Green.
Tron - I sure hope that this is a sing of “a pattern of enlightenment in some political circles.”
