Getting The Word Out: Expect The Unexpected

A friend, Erika, told me that she recently attended a conference of Women in Technology International (WITI) in Santa Clara, CA. Erika has been friends with the founder of the organization for some time, and in conversations with her Erika mentioned that she is vegan. She explained that for her the basis is fundamentally for the animals. The founder, Carolyn Leighton, was interested because she has always had an interest in health. When she learned about factory farming she decided to join Erika, and is moving toward becoming a vegan herself.

She went one better: she spoke about her conversion at the conference and printed a synopsis of her story on the WITI website. Erika was thrilled to hear her talk of it in a conference where you would not expect to hear anything about animals or vegans.

You can read Carolyn’s story on the WITI website. And remember that you really never know when your own words might go the extra mile and reach more people than you’d expect.
