Formaldehyde In Veal

Veal farmers fed calves formaldehyde. After doing it for 7 years, they finally got caught:

“Select Veal Feeds and its president, Wayne A. Marcho, told farmers to add formaldehyde and potassium permanganate to the food between 1998 and May 2005, and supplied the chemicals to the farmers in violation of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.”

“The formaldehyde was used to prevent scours, a common intestinal illness that causes diarrhea. The potassium permanganate was used to improve the color of the calves’ meat when it was sold to consumers as veal.”
