Fast “Food”?

Fast food is (probably) dangerous:
Researchers found that those who lived in areas with the most fast food restaurants had a 13% higher relative risk of stroke than those who lived in areas with the least fast food restaurants, after controlling for demographic and socioeconomic issues.
For every fast food restaurant in a neighborhood, the relative risk of stroke went up 1%. [...]
Is it direct consumption of fast food? Is it the lack of more healthy options? Is there something completely different in these neighborhoods that is associated with poor health? (source)
You really shouldn’t eat any/much fast food, but if you’re in a pinch, there ARE vegan options. Here are my personal favorites:
- Taco Bell’s bean burrito “fresco” style
- Subway’s veggie delight without cheese or mayo

I’d have to think that Taco Bell is one of the worst fast food companies around. They just pump out poison. It’s horrible.
WOW you’re pretty much blaming strokes on fast food restaurants. Did you ever stop to think maybe that people nowadays are just ignorant people who don’t care what they put in their bodies and don’t care to take the time to make themselves food at home? You cant blame them because people are too lazy nowadays. Its the peoples choice what they eat. The fast food restaurants aren’t forcing them to eat their food.
Hi tinytink,
I think individuals are personally responsible for their choices, but I also think that businesses that produce dangerous products have a special duty to protect consumers. I think of fast food businesses the same way I think of cigarette businesses.
Well cigarette companies DO post the harm their products can cause. Just like fast food companies normally, nowadays, have their nutritional facts posted. So you cant blame these companies that have their stuff posted. They dont deny their consumers these facts. The consumers just dont care. Simple as that.
I’m not sure it’s fair to say that “consumers just don’t care.”
Most people don’t understand nutrition labels, so they don’t realize how dangerous many “foods” are to eat. That’s why the FDA has a whole webpage dedicated to teaching people how to read labels:
http://www.fda.gov/Food/LabelingNutrition/ConsumerInformation/ucm078889.htm
Also, many people feel trapped financially. They think they can’t afford healthier food so they rely on fast food.
And some are more literally trapped. Poorer neighborhoods have more fast food and fewer healthier options available.
How can we get this information out to concerned people.
