Cash For Cluckers

PETA Will Rebate a Portion of the Purchase Price of Veggie ‘Chicken’ Products

Inspired by the US government’s wildly popular Cash for Clunkers program, which gives an incentive to drivers who trade their vehicle for a more fuel-efficient vehicle, PETA has announced a new program. THe new program, dubbed “Cash for Cluckers,” offers a $1 rebate to nonvegetarians who purchase vegetarian “chicken” products. The rebate will come with a copy of PETA’s “Vegetarian Starter Kit.” You can download the starter kit yourself for free at GoVeg.com.

Like its namesake, “Cash for Cluckers” is aimed at helping the environment. According to a United Nations report, the meat industry produces more greenhouse gasses than all the SUVs, cars, trucks, planes, and ships in the world combined. Researchers at the University of Chicago concluded that switching from a standard American diet to a vegan diet does more to combat climate change than switching from a standard American car to a hybrid.

People who choose vegetarian foods also help reduce water pollution, deforestation, and other environmental problems while saving the animals’ lives and improving their own health.

“Driving a fuel-efficient car is a step in the right direction, but to be truly ‘green,’ it’s best to adopt a vegetarian diet,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “We hope that ‘Cash for Cluckers’ provides the stimulus and the inspiration people need to make the switch to a healthy, humane, and Earth-friendly vegetarian diet.”
