A CRUEL WASTE OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS

Here is the video description from wild-horse-burro.org
In the worst economy since the Great Depression, President Obama and his Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar are asking for $75.7 million dollars in fiscal year 2011 primarily for more roundups and $43 million to buy one preserve likely in the East to warehouse some of the wild horses the BLM has condemned to captivity.
Please ask the President to:
1. STOP ALL ROUNDUPS until accurate and independent assessments of population numbers and range conditions are made available.
2. Restore protections included in the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act. Update existing laws that protect wild horses by reopening certain public lands to the mustangs and burros, thus decreasing the number in captivity.
3. Return healthy wild horses and burros in holding to all available acres of public land designated primarily for their use in 1971. If these lands are not available, equivalent and appropriate western public lands should be added in their place.
4. Reduce livestock grazing and reanalyze appropriate management levels for herd management areas to allow for self-sustaining, genetically-viable herds to exist in the west.
5. Conduct Congressional hearings regarding the mismanagement of our wild herds and further investigate the inability of BLM to correct the shortcomings of the program as audited by the Government Accountability Office’s 1990, 1991 and 2008 reports. For further information, view these websites:

In the meantime… here’s this from the State Ag & Rural Leaders who made these resolutions regarding horses:
A Resolution in Support of Controlling the Overpopulation of Wild and Feral Horses: Which is… Once BLM removes horses… Horses must be sold within 90 days— Money to go to “better man…agement and protection of the *resource base”.
AND: the restoration of a regulated and humane horse processing industry: “To control abandoned and feral horses without unnecessary taxpayer expense, and without wasting a valuable, renewable meat resource that is welcomed by a worldwide export market, and could combat hunger in the U.S. by providing a high quality, affordable protein source.”

Here’s the irony… First they spend tax dollars to “round up” these horses — Then they try to be the “good guys” by saving tax dollars sending the horses to slaughter that much sooner. It’s infuriating!
At this Florida conference Secretary Tom Vilsack was also given a Ringling Bros & Barnum and Bailey Circus, Private Backstage Tour and Dinner… They are so imbedded in using animals lives for their own sickening greed and gluttony. I’m frustrated and disheartened… Thanks for letting me rant.
