10 Reasons Not To Be Vegan

Here’s a sampling of reasons not to be a vegan:

  1. It’s tiresome the zillionth time somebody asks you, “What do you eat?”
  2. People who’ve heard you’re a vegan expect you to be thin. Sorry!
  3. Most people don’t know what it is and can’t pronounce it.
  4. People think you’re abusing your child. (There was even a Law & Order episode where a woman was accused of child abuse for serving her children healthy, whole foods.)
  5. You must restrain yourself from strangling your co-worker when he tells the “screaming tomatoes” joke for the fifteenth time.
  6. After hearing you’re a vegan, people think you are some sort of militant, scary fanatic who exudes ulterior motives in every sentence. They don’t seem to understand when you tell them you were like that before you became a vegan.
  7. You are tired of your vegetarian lifestyle being the big topic of conversation at every dinner you ever attend.
  8. People just don’t understand that caring for animals doesn’t mean you think they’re more important than humans, just that they are as important.
  9. If you are a female vegan, people try to tell you that you have an eating disorder; and if you are a male vegan then people tell you that you must be gay.
  10. People who “used to be vegetarian” but “outgrew it” (ie. began to find it inconvenient) and want to talk about it with you.

It’s a pretty funny list because it shows exactly how silly omnivores can be. Many really have no clue.

  1. Good ones. A lot of the ones on the external site are a bit sad. I guess I’m very blessed to have such veg-friendly friends and family. :-D

  2. Leena, I know what you mean. I am lucky to have fairly understanding friends and family too.

  3. “It’s a pretty funny list because it shows exactly how silly omnivores can be. Many really have no clue.”

All the above problems are just because of this ignorance. OK, say I have no clue… care to explain me?!

Let’s talk about cows. Cows have evolved so that they can live with people, and, as a matter of fact, they cannot live without us – several days without milking and the pure cow is gonna suffer a slow and painful death. Now, with that in mind, can you remind me why shouldn’t I eat cows?

I will not claim that your lifestyle and eating habbits are wrong, but after all it’s a choice you’ve made for yourself, so other people shouldn’t be concerned about it.

  4. “can you remind me why shouldn’t I eat cows?”

Maybe because chewing dead bodies filled with urine and sh*t is not good for your health?
